1. Society of the Spectacle

3D, VFX & Art Direction / 2020
Based on Guy Debord, The Society of the Spectacle

LASALLE College of the Arts presents 'Society of the Spectacle' – the first virtual fashion show featuring the collections from the 2020 BA(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles Programme graduating cohort. In our constant quest for new experiences, the current situation provides us with an exciting avenue to explore technology, augmented realities and the limits of our imagination. Society of the Spectacle questions the audience’s embodied presence, asking if our digital lived experiences are as they seem.

*This fashion show was filmed entirely on location at the Pasir Panjang Power Station and LASALLE College of the Arts after the circuit breaker period, with permission granted by the relevant authorities in compliance with mandatory safety rules.

The show is a direct response to French philosopher Guy Debord who in 1967 wrote, “All that was once directly lived has become mere representation.” Through the blurring of boundaries between digital and analogue realities, the show offers possibilities beyond the imagination.
