“Sleeping Dragon”
2021
3340 x 3030mm
Digital Print on Vinyl
"During the 1940s to 1970s there were more than 20 active dragon kilns in Singapore, now only 2 remain. Now known as Jalan Bahar Clay Studios. Which are inactive for firing. Ingenious ancient Chinese called them the sleeping dragon.
In this artwork, Phua reimagined the dragon kiln as a native creature local to Jurong’s historical mangrove and crocodile infested river. Being hidden in the depths of the vegetation and swamps."
